How to use the follow-up properly

A good follow-up feels like a natural continuation of the resource request. The recipient should immediately understand who you are, why you are contacting them, and what they can do next.

Begin by referring to the resource they requested. This gives the email context and prevents it from feeling like an unrelated promotion. You can offer one useful suggestion for getting value from the resource, then ask one easy question that invites a reply.

For example:

Hi, thanks for requesting the client onboarding checklist. Which part of your onboarding process are you trying to improve right now? Reply and tell me. I read every response.

This works because the message is relevant, brief, and easy to answer. The recipient does not need to book a call, read a long sales pitch, or make a purchase before speaking with you.

Use the follow-up to learn, not simply to broadcast. A question such as "What are you struggling with most?" can reveal the language your audience uses, the problems that matter to them, and the services or products they may need. The reply can be more useful than a passive click because it begins a direct exchange.

Choose one main action. If your goal is to start a conversation, ask the person to reply. Avoid filling the same message with several competing requests such as booking a call, following every social account, reading five articles, buying a product, and forwarding the email.

Make sure you are prepared to answer. Check the reply address associated with your account, monitor that inbox, and respond while the request is still fresh. The automatic message opens the door, but the personal response is where trust can develop.

Keep the message related to the Magnet and the permission the contact gave. Marketing consent should not be treated as permission for unrelated messages. If you move contacts into another platform, retain the relevant consent and Magnet-source information so you can communicate responsibly.
